Thomas and Langley Family Tree Pages

Hello, my name is Lyn Langford, thanks for visiting, I and my brother Geoff and sister Margaret have been "doing" the Family Tree for over three years, many a long afternoon has been spent in record offices both in England and Wales. Our research is still ongoing, but what we have discovered so far is to be found at the Family Tree link! My dad was Albert Thomas, he was born and grew up in Blaenau Ffestiniog, Gwynedd. Dad worked in the slate quarries for a time, but poor health forced him to look for work elsewhere, he came to England to work, which is where he met and married mum! Mum's father was William Evan Langley who was born in 1884 in Hazelslade, Staffordshire. These web pages are for displaying family information, and hopefully to help find new family members. I have tried to ensure that no information is divulged regarding any living person, out of respect for their privacy, so if you see any person listed as "living" within the family tree you will know why. Please e-mail me if you have any feedback, or if you spot any errors!

Significant names from England are BRAILSFORD, EYRE, HANSLOW, LANGLEY, RAY, SCOTSON, STOREY, TYSON. Families from Derbyshire, Lancashire, Leicestershire, Nottingham, Shropshire, Staffordshire and Worcestershire. In particular Bilston, Coniston, Dudley, Hope, Lilleshall and Mansfield areas.

Significant names from Wales are JONES, LLOYD, THOMAS, TYSON, WILLIAMS. Families from Gwynedd and Anglesey, in particular Blaenau Ffestiniog, Dolwyddelen, Llanfrothen and Llanielien areas.

Robert LANGLEY is our earliest Langley ancestor and he remains an enigma, although we did have the good fortune to be able to locate a Settlement Examination paper for him in Shropshire. Without that paper we would have hit a brick wall, it told us where he was born and his fathers name, which led us to Derbyshire, however, we have now hit the proverbial brick wall because we discovered he was baptised Robert LONGDEN! We are still trying to solve the name mystery. In the meantime you can read a little of the story HERE

Our BRAILSFORD family hail from Nottingham, my mother's mum was Minnie Beatrice Brailsford, sadly we never knew her, as she died when mum was just five years old. Mum was well loved by Minnies mother though, and mum, her sister and Grandad Langley lived with Lucy Brailsford (nee EYRE) for quite a while. Our  Brailsford's originally came from Sheffield, as we traced back to our 3 x Gt Grandfather William who was baptised at Sheffield Cathedral in 1806. Another point of interest about the name Brailsford is that it was a Brailsford who bred the Bramley cooking apple, although at this point in time I can't say whether it was one of ours! We were contacted by a cousin of mum a year ago who had noticed our Brailsford interests in the Nottingham FHS Newsletter, so it's always worth making the effort to join local Family History Societies. I have written a page with our Brailsford family details for quick reference, you can take a look HERE

"Cofiant John Jones, Talysarn" this biography was published in 1872 and written by Owen Thomas. It tells of the life of the Rev John JONES, Talysarn, how he lived, how he became active within the non conformist community and it also tells of his family and colleagues. My brother Geoff has translated some relevant pages from Welsh to English, some sections deal with John Jones's passion for his faith, and some sections mention names and places. One of the names is Angharad James our 8 x Gt Grandmother, who was also John Jones's Gt Grandmother. Although written many years ago, it may be of interest to those who research local history in the area and also to those who have ancestors from the area, as there is a mention of John Jones's siblings, some of whom went to Wisconsin, USA. Click HERE to read the translation.

"Another Cumbrian in Ffestiniog", an article written by John Buckley, who has kindly allowed us to publish it here. John has researched the lives of a group of Cumbrians who left their home villages in search of work, in fact they settled in the area around Blaenau Ffestiniog. One of these men was John TYSON, who was our 3 X Gt Grandfather. Reading this makes us realise how hard times must have been, you can read the article HERE

Also another article, translated to English by my brother Geoff, about Samuel Samuel JONES who was the son of Ann TYSON and Samuel Jones and the brother of our Gt Grandmother Margaret Jones. Samuel also went to Pennsylvania, but later returned! Read about S. Jones HERE
